Titans' epic goal-line stand contributes to Jaguars missing NFL playoffs
The Jacksonville Jaguars needed to gain a yard against the Tennessee Titans defense to keep their season alive on Sunday, and they could not get it.
Down 28-20 midway through the fourth quarter, the Jaguars faced third-and-goal from the Titans' 1-yard line. Jacksonville needed a win at Nissan Stadium to win the AFC South and a playoff berth. A loss meant it would be watching the playoffs at home.
On third-and-goal, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence rolled right, had no one open and threw the ball away.
On fourth-and-goal, Lawrence tried to dive over the pile to break the plane of the end zone, except his outstretched arm was about six inches short.
The Titans' defense held, and the Jaguars' best chance at getting back into the game fell short. Tennessee eventually held on to win 28-20.

Lawrence has struggled in the final six weeks of the season while dealing with multiple injuries. Jacksonville lost five of its final six games, missing the playoffs after starting 8-3.
The Titans produced two first half-interceptions, the first coming on a diving catch by defensive back Terrell Edmunds. That interception eventually resulted in a Tyjae Spears touchdown run in the second quarter to give Tennessee a double-digit lead. The second interception was grabbed by Sean Murphy-Bunting and halted a Jaguars two-minute drive.
And despite the Jaguars cashing in on a Ryan Tannehill second-half interception with an Evan Engram touchdown catch, Jacksonville never got within eight points.
