FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Tiger Woods didn’t record a single double bogey over the 72 holes of his historic Masters triumph last month.

It took him only about 10 minutes to post one at the PGA Championship.

Playing for the first time since winning his fifth green jacket, Woods teed off on the 10th hole at Bethpage Black and, well, it could have gone a bit better.

After hitting his tee shot right into the thick first cut, Woods was forced to lay up with his second shot on the long 502-yard par 4. His approach shot hit the back of the green and he three-putted — missing a six-foot bogey putt — for an inauspicious start.

Playing partner Brooks Koepka, meanwhile, did not flinch on the first hole, sinking a lengthy birdie putt to take a quick three-stroke lead on the man he finished second to at Augusta and bested at last summer’s PGA Championship at Bellerive.

A bounce-back birdie at 15 moved Woods to +1.

Woods did not practice on Wednesday, instead preferring to save his legs for the hilly challenge that Bethpage presents.
