Who will be Texas' Week 8 'College GameDay' guest picker? Here are a few options

ESPN's "College GameDay" is returning to Austin for Texas football's top-five showdown against No. 4 Georgia.

The "College GameDay" crew of Rece Davis, former Alabama football coach Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit will set up shop on the South Mall of Texas' campus to preview the Longhorns' SEC showdown with the Bulldogs. The show will start at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday.

The Week 8 meeting between the Longhorns and Bulldogs will not only feature two national championship-caliber programs, but also two former Saban assistants in Texas' Steve Sarkisian and Georgia's Kirby Smart.

And so, with "GameDay" announcing it will be in Austin for Saturday's top-five SEC showdown, the conversation surrounding the show has shifted towards one of its biggest traditions: the celebrity guest picker.

So who will be this week's guest picker on Saturday? Here's a look at some possible guests:

Week 8 'College GameDay' possible guest pickers

"College GameDay" traditionally has announced the celebrity guest picker for that week's show on Thursdays of that week. In the meantime, here's a list of some possible options:

  • Scottie Scheffler: He seems to be the no-doubt pick, given the type of year he had on the PGA Tour and international level. The former Longhorn golfer, who resides in Dallas, became the only player to win The Players Championship, the Masters Tournament and the Tour Championship in the same season this year. Scheffler also won the Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

  • Matthew McConaughey: No need for an explanation on this one, as McConaughey is the "Minister of Culture" at Texas and is a frequent attendee at Longhorns games.

  • Kevin Durant: The Phoenix Suns' season doesn't officially get underway until Wednesday, Oct. 23. Could the former Longhorns basketball star return to Austin?

  • Jordan Spieth: The three-time major champion and former Longhorns golfer was the most recent guest picker when "College GameDay" traveled to Austin in 2022.

  • Vince Young: Young, the last quarterback to lead the Longhorns to a national championship, is still beloved in Austin, as he spent four seasons with the Longhorns from 2002-05. He threw for 6,040 yards and 44 touchdowns while rushing for 3,127 more at Texas.

  • Justin Tucker: Of all the options, Tucker is probably the longest shot as the former Longhorns kicker is playing on "Monday Night Football" in Week 7 in Florida against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • Glen Powell: The "Anyone But You" and "Twisters" star is from the Austin area. He also has a football connection the show can utilize, as he is Eli Manning's alter ego, Chad Powers, in an upcoming Hulu TV series. Hulu, of course, is owned by the Walt Disney Company, which also owns ESPN.

  • Eminem: The rapper is performing at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin on Saturday night ahead of Sunday's Formula 1 United States Grand Prix race. Would 'GameDay' want to bring him on as a neutral party?

  • Sting: Similar to Eminem, the 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist is performing at the Circuit of The Americas on Friday to kick off the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix weekend. Could he stay in Austin an extra day and be the guest picker? He's also playing the Alamodome in San Antonio on Oct. 25 with Billy Joel, so it could be good promotion of the two-legendary artists tour (though the concert is sold out).
