College GameDay Week 8: Crew headed to Texas vs Georgia in Austin

A big weekend in Austin just got even bigger.

It was announced on Saturday morning that ESPN's College GameDay will be on the Texas campus next weekend. The three-hour television show Sept. 19 will help set the stage for the Texas-Georgia football game that evening.

According to Texas, this will be the 24th time that College GameDay has been broadcast from the site of a UT football game. So far, the Longhorns are 12-11 in those games. College GameDay has been to Austin nine times with its last appearance being for the 2022 TCU game.

If Texas and Georgia hold onto their lofty rankings − the Longhorns and Bulldogs were respectively ranked first and fourth in the US LBM Coaches poll and first and fifth in the Associated Press poll this week − this will be the first top-five showdown at Royal-Memorial Stadium since 2006. Georgia and Texas were also picked to finish first and second in the Southeastern Conference's preseason poll.

Texas (5-0, 1-0) is set to play Oklahoma (4-1, 1-1) this Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Georgia (4-1, 2-1) will prepare for its trip to Austin with a game against Mississippi State (1-4, 0-2).
