Texas football program paid millions to arrange 2024 nonconference schedule, records show

The Texas football team will conclude its 2024 nonconference schedule when it hosts Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. Saturday at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

In doing so, the Longhorns will complete a slate that saw them dish out $4.9 million in game guarantee payments, according to documents obtained by the American-Statesman.

Texas, which took the first steps in constructing this schedule when it signed a deal to play a home-and-home series against Michigan back in 2014, also earned $1 million for traveling to Ann Arbor to play the Wolverines. Texas will owe Michigan the same amount when it comes to Austin for the return game in 2027.

The most expensive game for Texas was its opener against Colorado State.

That game, which was agreed upon in 2019, obligates Texas to pay CSU $1.8 million. The Longhorns easily handled the Rams in that contest, swatting away their Mountain West competitors 52-0.

UTSA, which Texas beat 56-7 Saturday behind an electrifying performance from backup quarterback Arch Manning, is entitled to $1.6 million for making the short trip. That contest was the first of a four-game agreement between the Longhorns and Roadrunners, who will also play in Austin in 2026, 2028 and 2030. Texas will owe UTSA $1.7 million for the second meeting, $1.8 million for the third and $1.9 million for the fourth.

Texas' game against Louisiana-Monroe will entitle ULM to a payment of $1.5 million. The Longhorns and Warhawks also settled on a multigame agreement, with ULM set to return to Royal-Memorial Stadium in 2029 for another $1.5 million payday.
