Spring All-County: Which girls water polo athletes had great seasons in Palm Beach County?
Welcome to the 2024 Palm Beach Post High School Sports Awards, where we will be announcing nominations and winners for Player of the Year in each of our sports.
With that being said, it's time to meet The Palm Beach Post's girls water polo All-County team!
At the live show for this spring's Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards on Wednesday, June 5 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the boys basketball Player of the Year will be announced along with the teams, coaches, and athletes of the year, as well as a Courage Award winner. The Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.
Player of the Year Nominees
Julia Allen, Senior, Boca Raton
One of the premier attackers in Palm Beach County, Allen entered this year as the two-time player of the year for girls water polo and had another successful year to close out her high-school career. Boca Raton finished the season as district runners-up as well as regional quarterfinalists.
Coral Uzgiden, Senior, Boca Raton
Uzgiden led a Boca defense as one of the county's top goalies, helping the Bobcats to another successful year in her final high-school season. Boca Raton finished the season as district runners-up as well as regional quarterfinalists.
Maci Rippo, Senior, St. Andrew’s
The Scots goalie led St. Andrews' defense, which played a tough schedule and ended the season as 1A-District 8 semifinalists.
Ekaterina Malyshev, Sophomore, Palm Beach Central
Malyshev's 81 goals led Palm Beach Central's offense this season, helping the Broncos to an 11-2 record. Central finished as district runners-up.
Diana Balabanova, Senior, Spanish River
After missing the first part of the season, Spanish River won seven in a row upon her return to lead the Sharks defense as the squad's goalie. In that span, she allowed fewer than seven goals per game en route to Spanish River claiming the 1A-District 7 title.
Amanda Poirier, Senior, Spanish River
Poirier was Spanish River's top offensive weapon in 2024, and while the offense went through her, head coach Patrick Abbondandolo also named her the spirit and leader of the Sharks team, taking several younger member of the team under her wing. Spanish River won the 1A-District 7 title.

Anabelle Phillips, Boca Raton
Kylie Jo Barsa, St. Andrew's
Samantha Roseff, Palm Beach Central
Coach of the Year
Matthew Caplin, Palm Beach Central
Under Caplin's wing, the Broncos turned their program around in dramatic fashion during the spring 2024 season, winning 11 games to finish as district runners-up after tallying just two wins in the previous season.
