The general consensus walking out of New Orleans Saints practice on Monday is Spencer Rattler was impressive. This is the exact takeaway he needed. The mission of the day was to take advantage of Jake Haener's absence.

Mission accomplished.

Rattler took all of the second and third team reps. With eyes glued on him, Rattler continued to put together strong practices. He completed 15 of 19 passes on the day, with no turnovers.

This isn't the only challenge Rattler faced. Dennis Allen tested him in two situational scenarios: a two-minute drill to end the game, and a long fourth down with 5 yards to go. Rattler made what Allen described as a "Hell of a throw on an out route." It's safe to count that as a passing grade for Rattler.

The two-minute drill was for both quarterbacks. Each quarterback got the ball at the 30-yard line as if it was a touchback with 1:15 on the clock. They only needing a field goal for the win. Rattler went 3-for-4 on the drive, including a deep pass to Michael Jacobson, then handed the ball off to run down the clock in field goal range.

Blake Grupe may have missed the field goal, but it was still a job well done by Rattler. Three challenges on the day and Rattler answered the bell on all three. His next hurdle comes in Saturday's preseason game with the Arizona Cardinals.
