Saints bring back offensive lineman Mark Evans II, waive Mason Fairchild

The New Orleans Saints have been shuffling various positions throughout training camp, including wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, and linebacker all at various points. On Wednesday, that shuffle continued as they waived recently-signed tight end Mason Fairchild and re-signed offensive lineman Mark Evans II.

The Saints signed Fairchild on Aug. 2, meaning he made it only three practices before being waived. Ultimately, this could be an indication that they are happy with their tight end room as is, or that someone is progressing well from an injury standpoint. Ultimately, the tight end position will be one to watch no doubt, with undrafted rookie Dallin Holker drumming up some intrigue.

Evans on the other hand has been on-and-off the Saints practice squad for awhile now, being initially signed as an undrafted free agent back in April 2023. He has been waived and re-signed a few different times now since then, so he clearly has potential to be a decent player in the Saints' eyes. He could end up being an intriguing piece to watch throughout training camp and preseason if he sticks around, depending on how many offensive linemen take the available roster spots.
