Wide receiver isn't the only position group getting reinforced at New Orleans Saints training camp. The Saints shuffled their tight ends depth chart on Friday evening by signing two free agents, per NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill, including a rookie who made plays in one of college football's most exciting offenses.

Here's a quick look at what each of them have to offer, a recap of the corresponding roster moves, and an educated guess at how the depth chart may stack up at tight end moving forwards:

Mason Fairchild signed to the 90-man roster

Fairchild is listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, though he posted a Relative Athletic Score of just 4.85 (out of 10). He did a lot of heavy lifting for the Jayhawks the last five years. He logged more than 1,200 snaps as a run blocker and was a big part of their passing attack the last two seasons, totaling 62 catches for 894 yards over those 26 games. He converted 46 first downs and scored 9 touchdown receptions in that span. We'll see whether that playmaking ability translates. What will best determine his future is how well he can execute the blocking assignments given to him.

Fairchild already tried out for the Buffalo Bills this summer without much success, so it's fair to question how much he has to offer. But he might have a better opportunity here in an offense built on many of the same zone-blocking principles that Klint Kubiak favors, even if Lance Leipold had more success running inside zone than outside.

Kevin Rader signed to the 90-man roster

Rader is listed at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, and his Relative Athletic Score was just 3.62 coming out of school (out of 10). He played college football at Youngstown State. spent two years with the Tennessee Titans and two more with the Pittsburgh Steelers to start his career, but he's never seen much game action since turning pro. He's played more snaps on special teams (495) than on offense (323) through four seasons. Two-thirds of those snaps have had him blocking on run plays which gives you an idea of the role the Saints envision for him.

Tommy Hudson designated to injured reserve

Hudson was hurt at practice recently and was waived with an injury designation. The Saints placed him on injured reserve after he cleared waivers. It's a tough break for Hudson after he spent the 2023 season on the practice squad waiting for this opportunity to climb the depth chart.

Jesper Horsted placed on waivers

Horsted was signed earlier this offseason with an opportunity to try out at training camp after previously playing for the Raiders. But he didn't make many plays or take a lot of reps with the first- and second-string offenses, so the Saints brought in other players to compete at the position.

Updated depth chart

It's probably more realistic to put Hill with the fullbacks, if not his own position group, but he's still going to line up at tight end and block and run routes from time to time, so we're reflecting that. Holker appears to have pulled away from Jacobson in the battle for the TE3 spot which is encouraging. He needs to prove to the coaching staff that he has more to offer in that role than the guys on the roster as well as Jimmy Graham, who has expressed an openness to one more year with the Saints while training for next summer's Arctic excursion. Rader and Fairchild don't really move the needle but they'll have ample opportunities with Johnson still on the mend.
