Rockets host grand opening event for new training, practice facility
With Tuesday’s tour to credentialed media, the Rockets officially unveiled their new practice facility alongside Houston’s West Loop, or I-610. Starting next Tuesday, Oct. 1, the facility will host training camp for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season — though it has already been used for practices and workouts throughout the 2024 offseason.
Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta was part of the tour, and he took questions from media members in attendance as part of the ceremonial event. General manager Rafael Stone and Gretchen Sheirr, president of business operations, were also part of the grand opening ceremony.
“This has been a very important project for our franchise,” Fertitta said. “Our commitment is to provide our players, coaches, and staff with the best possible experience and opportunities to be successful. The completion of this training center is a significant step towards achieving that goal.”
“In the short time the training center has been used this summer, we have already felt an immediate impact on our organization,” Stone said. “Tilman and the Fertitta family have done an amazing job in making sure our players and staff were provided with the best tools possible to continue towards our goal of building a championship caliber team.”
Other members of the organization, including players and head coach Ime Udoka, will comment next week when the team’s annual Media Day takes place Monday and at Tuesday’s opening of training camp.
