Quinn Ewers injury update: Texas football QB injured in game vs UTSA

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers leaves the game early in the second quarter after suffering an apparent abdomen injury against the UTSA Roadrunners at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Redshirt freshman Arch Manning came in for Ewers at quarterback and threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the first half.

Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers left the sideline for the Longhorns' locker room during the second quarter Saturday vs. UTSA with a towel draped over his head.

Ewers, one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy, suffered an apparent injury and left the game following a handoff early in the second quarter.

He returned in street clothes due to what Steve Sarkisian called an abdomen injury.

Quinn Ewers injury update

After receiving attention from the Longhorns' training staff, Ewers walked off the field under his own power. He made it to the locker room without assistance, too.

The ESPN broadcast mentioned an issue with Ewers' hand or thumb early in the game, but the injury that forced him out of the game appeared to be a different problem.

At the time of publication, Texas had not offered an official update on Ewers' status.

Arch Manning replaces Quinn Ewers

He was replaced by Arch Manning, a redshirt freshman and the former top overall recruit. Manning threw a 19-yard touchdown pass and ran for a 67-yard TD on the first two drives after Ewers' exit.

Ewers completed 44 of his 63 passing attempts in the first two games of Texas' season, throwing six touchdowns compared to one interception. He started Saturday's game 14-for-16 for 185 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian updates Quinn Ewers' injury status

During a halftime interview with ESPN, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said Ewers had a "strained abdomen."
