Pyotr Kochetkov Injury Not Believed To Be Serious, Doubtful For Weekend Back-To-Back

The Carolina Hurricanes have seemingly avoided a total disaster in net, but the road ahead still looks a little bumpy.

Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Utah Hockey Club presumably due to injury and wasn't at practice either on Friday, but Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour says that Kochetkov isn't dealing with anything overly serious.

"[Kochetkov] missed today and he's probably, I'd say, doubtful for tomorrow," Brind'Amour said.

The Russian netminder appeared to be in discomfort, grabbing at his lower-body, following Utah's second goal after defenseman Sean Walker crashed into him.

Kochetkov remained in the game until the third goal against, just over two minutes later, at which point he got pulled for Spencer Martin who is now the Canes' starter just a week or two after being in the AHL.

While many fans were worried on his status, Brind'Amour's comments suggest that he'll be back very soon.

[Kochetkov] will be back maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day," Brind'Amour said. "We're not too concerned with that."

And it's a good thing that they aren't too concerned being that their other main goalie, Frederik Andersen, will be out for even longer than they had originally expected.

"We were hoping it was going to be week-to-week, but now it's going to be, I'd say... way longer," Brind'Amour said.

If Kochetkov doesn't go, the Hurricanes will need to call up a netminder for the weekend, most likely Yaniv Perets from the Chicago Wolves.

"I would assume so," Brind'Amour said when asked about a recall. "We haven't really discussed that yet. We'll make that assessment here in the next little while. We might have to."
