Pros and cons of Los Angeles Rams picking Clemson football’s Tyler Davis in 2024 NFL Draft

CLEMSON — Defensive tackle Tyler Davis from Clemson football is officially an NFL rookie after being picked 196th overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft on Saturday.

Here's what Davis brings to Los Angeles, based on our own observations from his tenure at Clemson:

What Tyler Davis brings to Los Angeles Rams in 2024 NFL Draft

Davis is the first Tigers defensive player to be a four-time All-ACC selection. He had 144 tackles (29.5 for loss), 16 sacks and three pass deflections in 56 career games (52 starts). At the NFL Combine, the 6-foot-2, 300-pound tackle tied for second among defensive tackles in the bench press with 29 reps.

Davis plays much stronger than his measurables. He uses strength to overcome his size difference and has the quickness to gain leverage inside the pocket.

Tyler Davis' highlights, strengths, weaknesses at Clemson football

Davis earned co-defensive player of the game honors after recording six tackles (2.5 for loss — tying a career high) with 1.5 sacks vs. No. 21 Wake Forest on Sept. 24, 2022. Four weeks later, he notched a career-high two sacks with four tackles (2.5 for loss) vs. No. 14 Syracuse on Oct. 22, 2022.

Davis' measurables are a concern as they are not prototypical in the NFL at his position and have limited his pass-rushing ability and block shedding. He has overcome those issues in college though with his motor, strength and IQ.
