New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo indicated that the team has decided internally on the starting quarterback. The plan is to talk to the players on the team about it Thursday and then make an announcement, per NFL insider Albert Breer.

Rookie Drake Maye has shown flashes of playmaking ability throughout training camp and the preseason. In total, he has tallied 192 passing yards and a touchdown on 21-of-34 passing in the exhibition games.

Sunday night’s preseason finale against the Washington Commanders was one of his better performances of the preseason slate. He went 13-of-20 on the evening, throwing for 126 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Brissett threw for 36 yards and an interception during the preseason. He went 2-of-4 for 19 yards in Sunday’s game, before exiting with a right shoulder injury.

The quarterback competition has been one of the hot storylines for the Patriots throughout training camp. Now, it appears we will get a definitive answer as to who will be under center for the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
