Oregon injury report: What we know as Ducks prepare to open season vs. Idaho

UPDATE: Injured right guard Matthew Bedford is questionable for Oregon’s season-opener against Idaho on Saturday.

The Ducks’ first Big Ten-mandated availability report came out two hours before game time and there were no real surprises other than the upgraded status of Bedford, who hurt his knee three weeks ago and only recently returned to practice.

Ruled out for the game are cornerback Jahlil Florence, defensive backs Dakoda Fields and Ify Obidegwu, offensive lineman Dave iuli, defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner, tight end Travis Brashear.

Also listed as questionable are receiver Gary Bryant Jr — a 10-game starter in 2023 — and kicker Andrew Boyle.

A look at Oregon's injuries from earlier this week

The Big Ten Conference requires a game-day player availability report for all teams to be released at least two hours before their respective kickoff times.

That will come out no later than 2:30 p.m. Saturday for Oregon, which opens the season at 4:30 against Idaho in Autzen Stadium.

Until then, here is a look at some players whose health has been in question during the Ducks’ fall camp.

Matthew Bedford The projected starter at right guard was ruled out for an extended period of time two weeks ago after injuring his knee in fall camp. He was in pads and at practice on Wednesday, but wasn't participating in blocking drills during the short time period media was allowed to attend.

Gary Bryant Jr. The wide receiver and 10-game starter last season has been practicing this week after missing some time earlier in camp. On Monday, coach Dan Lanning said Bryant “could be” available on Saturday.

Dakoda Fields — The freshman defensive back is out with a knee injury and there is no timetable for his return, Lanning said Wednesday.

Jahlil Florence The nine-game starter at cornerback last season continues to work his way back from a knee injury that happened in November against Arizona State. Lanning said Monday he wasn’t expecting Florence to play against Idaho.

My’Keil Gardner The redshirt freshman, who was expected to provide depth along the defensive line this fall, is also out for an extended period of time with an undisclosed injury.

“My’Keil is probably going to be down for a while,” Lanning said last week. “We’re anxious to get him back, but it won’t be something that happens overnight. He’s going to be down for a little bit.”

Dave Iuli The veteran reserve guard is working his way back from a broken foot during the spring. Iuli was practicing in a limited capacity for much of fall camp but recently returned to wearing cleats, though Lanning also said Monday he wasn’t expecting Iuli to play Saturday.

Jordan James — The expected starter at running back got a day off last week for precautionary reasons but has been practicing as usual this week.

“He’s got a lot of wear and tear and we felt like this was a good day to pull some off of him," Lanning said on Aug. 21.
