Oregon football's projected starting right guard Matthew Bedford out with knee injury

The Oregon football team was down at least one projected starter Saturday afternoon when the Ducks were back inside Autzen Stadium for their second scrimmage of fall camp.

Offensive lineman Matthew Bedford, who suffered a knee injury earlier during camp, will miss an undetermined amount of time.

“He’s down for a little bit,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said Saturday. “I think it’s bound to be determined based on his recovery and what that looks like, and we’re not gonna be selfish with trying to push him back to get him here tomorrow. I don’t think that’s realistic. Will he be able to play games for us this year? Yeah, absolutely.”

Bedford, a senior transfer from Indiana who was a multi-year starter for the Hoosiers, was expected to start at right guard for the Ducks.

Lanning also offered updates on reserve offseason lineman Dave Iuli (foot) and cornerback Jahlil Florence (knee), both still recovering from offseason surgeries.

“He’s closer,” Lanning said of Iuli. “He hasn’t been full-go yet, so we’ll see if we’re able to get him there before the season kicks off.”

Iuli played in all 14 games last season, with the majority of that time coming at left guard.

Florence, who started nine games last season before getting injured against Arizona State in November, is also progressing.

“He’s not there yet,” Lanning said. “Still conservative on what we’re letting him do. He’s still gonna be aggressive with his rehab and putting him in position to where he can go out there and perform for us but right now he’s not available.”

As for the scrimmage itself, which came two weeks before the season-opener against Idaho,  Lanning described it as “much cleaner” than last week’s scrimmage inside Autzen Stadium.

“Still gotta watch the film but overall I thought it was a really good, competitive scrimmage with our guys,” Lanning said. “Lots of back and forth, some wins on both sides of the ball which is kind of what you want in this situation.”
