NFL Mock Draft: NY Jets predictions for No. 8 pick in 2025, including a Georgia star
Before the season, many projected the New York Jets to at least be a borderline playoff team with the return of a healthy Aaron Rodgers, multiple veterans brought in to solidify the offensive line, and a defense that added Haason Reddick in the offseason.
With the combination of an underperforming and oft-injured Rodgers, an underwhelming offensive line, and Reddick holding out -- being fined millions in the process before joining the team in Week 8 -- it's been a disaster for Gang Green in 2024.
Sitting at 3-7, the Jets don't have a lot of options besides to essentially win out in hopes of ending their 13-year absence from the playoffs.
With the low probability of that happening, the Jets are seemingly pegged to have a Top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, currently sitting at No. 8 overall following an abysmal 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week.
Here are a few examples of recent mock drafts as to who the Jets could draft early in the first round:
USA TODAY: Mykel Williams, DE, Georgia
A noticeable theme here will be the Jets going defense, with USA TODAY's NFL associate editor Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz taking Williams, a standout for the Georgia Bulldogs, to add to this defensive line unit. Middlehurst-Schwartz writes:
"It's anyone's guess as to what next year's iteration of the Jets will look like given the wide-reaching fallout that could be ahead once this year's disappointing campaign wraps up. But there's little reason for Gang Green to hand Haason Reddick the long-term contract that the two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher is seeking. The Jets can reload their edge rush with Williams, whose power makes him a fine partner for breakout defensive end Will McDonald IV."
CBS Sports: Mason Graham, DL, Michigan
Another name to watch out defensively for is Graham, who has anchored the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines defensive front for the past three seasons.
Here's what CBS's Josh Edwards had to say about the 21-year-old California native:
"The franchise has already fired coach Robert Saleh and Aaron Rodgers is leading an offense struggling to find its way. The 2024 season may be the last of his career and there is not an obvious replacement, but if there is not a worthy quarterback available, then they must go down another path, which is pairing Quinnen Williams with Mason Graham in this instance."
Sporting News: Will Campbell, OT, LSU
If the Jets decided to go on offense and not address the QB position early in the first round, the most obvious choice would be to continue to fix this offensive line.
Here's what Sporting News Vinnie Iyer had to say about one of the premier tackles in the upcoming draft class:
"Aging Tyron Smith is fading at left tackle, and another veteran addition, Morgan Moses, hasn't been that reliable at right tackle. The Jets should want this massive mauler to be a huge asset in the running game playing either side and also smoothly protecting Aaron Rodgers (or whoever is at QB)."
