NBA Draft handshake for Jalen Williams, brother Cody took a lot of practice

Cody Williams sat at the podium and starting talking about practice.

Williams — who was selected 10th overall by the Utah Jazz in the NBA Draft on Wednesday night — had to explain the process behind his elaborate handshake because he didn't like how it went two years earlier when the Thunder drafted his brother, Jalen, 12th overall.

They got it right this time at Barclays Center.

"Two years ago, we messed it up," Cody Williams told reporters in Brooklyn, N.Y. "We were practicing for a few days, maybe even a week up until this point, to make sure we nailed it. Add a little flair to it. So we made up for it."

The Thunder selected Serbian guard Nikola Topic two spots after the Jazz took Williams out of Colorado.

While OKC will miss out on a Williams brother lineup, fans can start look forward to all the Thunder-Jazz divisional games and fun handshakes.

The NBA schedule release is nearly two months away, but Cody Williams is already looking forward to facing his big brother.

"We're going to talk crazy during that game," Cody Williams said. "I'll tell you right now. It's something we dreamed about. As kids, obviously we never really got to play against or with each other on the same team just because of the age difference.

"So I think being able to do that now is definitely a dream come true. I'm going to make sure I'm matched up on him when we're playing them. Make sure, tell Will, put me on (Jalen Williams). That's the game plan."
