Who was the best of the best in the Courier Times/Intelligencer area?

Take a look here as we unveil our first- and second-team wrestling all-stars, and honorable-mention selections for the 2023-24 season.

First team

107 pounds: Joey Bachmann, Faith Christian, freshman

Bachmann was terrific from start to finish of his first season as he won Beast of the East, Walsh Ironman and Escape The Rock tournament titles before capping things off with a PIAA Class 2A title. He finished the season 38-0.

114 pounds: Connor Lenahan, Council Rock South, senior

In his second PIAA Class 3A championship appearance, he placed fifth by going an impressive 5-2 in Hershey. He finished the season 45-13 and had 113 career victories.

He had big shoes to fill: Council Rock South's Trey Balasco is our Bucks County area wrestling Coach of the Year

121 pounds: Mason Ziegler, Quakertown, senior

A PIAA Class 3A runner-up as a junior and a third-place PIAA finisher this season, Ziegler ends his career as Quakertown's all-time leader in wins with 167 after going 50-4 this season.

127 pounds: Anthony Mutarelli, Council Rock South, junior

He finished the season 31-3 with his only in-state loss coming by one point against Montgomery's Brandt Harer, who went 54-0 and won a Class 2A PIAA title. He'll be eligible for the postseason next year after sitting out the tournaments this season due to transferring from Malvern Prep.

Changes needed at PIAA championships: PIAA wrestling: Bucks County girls part of history, but some changes need to be made

133 pounds: Charlie Robson, Conwell-Egan, senior

A two-time, first-team Courier Times/Intelligencer selection, he ended up with a 31-3 record and placed third at the PIAA championships in Class 2A after taking fourth as a junior and sixth as a sophomore. He finished with 130 career wins.

139 pounds: Patrick Kelly, Cental Bucks West, junior

A PIAA Class 3A Southeast Regional champion, he qualified for the PIAA tournament for the first time and placed fourth in Class 3A. He finished the season 38-6 and is two wins shy of 100 for his career.

145: pounds: Chase Hontz, Faith Christian, junior

A two-time Courier Times/Intelligencer first-team selection, he qualified for the PIAA Class 2A championships for the third time and placed fourth after finishing third as a sophomore. He finished the season with a 41-10 record and has 111 career wins.

152 pounds: Collin Gaj, Quakertown, junior

A three-time Courier Times/Intelligencer first-team selection, he qualified for the PIAA Class 3A championships for the third time and placed second after winning a state title as a sophomore and taking fourth as a freshman. He finished the season 44-4 and has 138 career victories.

160 pounds: Cael Weidemoyer, Faith Christian, sophomore

A two-time Courier Times/Intelligencer first-team selection, he qualified for the PIAA Class 2A championships for the second time and placed second after finishing third as a freshman. He ended the season with a 23-3 record.

172 pounds: Adam Waters, Faith Christian, sophomore

A two-time Courier Times/Intelligencer first-team selection, he won his second PIAA Class 2A title with a pin in the final for the second straight year. He finished the season with a 43-4 record and has never lost to a Pennsylvania wrestler in his high school career, going 87-0.

Co-winners of girls wrestler of year: Conwell-Egan and Palisades stars named girls' co-Wrestlers of Year for Bucks County area

189 pounds: Cody Wagner, Faith Christian, senior

He qualified for the PIAA Class 2A championships for the first time, after placing fourth at regionals, and finished eighth in Hershey. He finished the season with a 34-13 record and had 93 career wins.

215 pounds: Jason Singer, Faith Christian, sophomore

A two-time Courier Times/Intelligencer first-team selection, he qualified for the PIAA Class 2A championships for the second time and placed fourth after ending up seventh as a freshman. He finished the season with a 40-11 record.

285 pounds: Mark Effendian, Faith Christian, sophomore

He qualified for the PIAA Class 2A championships for the second time, earning his first medal this season by placing third. He finished the season with a 41-10 record.
