We all want Sept. 8 to be here. But that means rushing the summer, a season that's a process for each NFL team as they work to assemble the best 53-man roster.

Every player has the eye of Mike Tomlin and his assistant coaches, but one in particular has been put under a microscope.

Justin Fields has seen the bulk of first-team reps while Russell Wilson nursed a calf injury. On Tuesday, the Super Bowl champion took to the field to practice for the first time since training camp began as the two quarterbacks split reps with the ones.

As for how Fields has progressed through 11 days of camp, Tomlin had this to say:

I think we’re still writing that story. I like the attention that he brings to the things we’re trying to get done. He’s really been focused on his lower body in the pocket, for example. He’s doing a nice job of that. But, we’ve got a lot of ongoing projects and things that we’re focused on in terms of getting better. He’s doing a nice job of it.

Tomlin likes what he's seen out of the young signal-caller's brief QB1 opportunity. While this is still Wilson's job to lose, Fields has put his best foot forward, which will benefit him should he need to be under center during the regular season.
