Miami Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa open 2024 training camp. Here's how it went.

MIAMI GARDENS -- The Dolphins opened training camp for 2024 Wednesday morning with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa a part-time participant.

Tagovailoa is negotiating a contract extension and holding himself out of most 11-on-11 team drills as a precaution against injuries. He is doing seven-on-sevens.

Here are highlights of the workout:

  • There was a scare early in seven-on-seven drills when Tyreek Hill caught a short pass from Tagovailoa and eluded an onrushing Jevon Holland. In the process, Holland went airborne and landed awkwardly. After a few seconds, Holland got up and flashed a thumbs-up sign. Concerns appeared to be alleviated on the next play -- Holland was back in -- but he was a spectator for the remainder of the practice.

  • All players were in attendance and spotted except for RB Chris Brooks. Coach Mike McDaniel had said Armstead's workload will be monitored this summer.

  • Siran Neal broke up a pass that eventually landed in the hands of LB Ezekiel Vanderburgh. Tagovailoa threw it.

  • Jordyn Brooks wore the orange jersey as the practice player of the day. No word on if that refers back to the last workout of minicamp, coaches' whims or Brooks' love of the color.

  • Skylar Thompson and Jack Driscoll had a fumbled exchange on a snap.

  • Mike White found Jaylen Waddle in traffic. Waddle paid the price by colliding with Jordan Poyer.

  • De'Von Achane had a run for a long gain.

  • Brandon Pili had a sack against Gavin Hardison.

  • Kendall Fuller broke up a pass from White.

  • Zach Sieler had a sack against White.

  • Neal had an interception against Hardison, who probably would have been sacked anyway.

  • Sunday's workout, which begins at 10:40 a.m., is the first open to fans. More information is available here.
