Memphis Grizzlies rookies Zach Edey, Cam Spencer out for rest of summer league
Memphis Grizzlies rookies Zach Edey and Cam Spencer have been ruled out for the remainder of the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
The Grizzlies are shutting Cam Spencer and Zach Edey down for the remainder of summer league due to ankle sprains.
Nothing overly concerning, but no more Edey/Spencer in Las Vegas.— Damichael Cole (@DamichaelC) July 19, 2024
With the Grizzlies remaining undefeated in Las Vegas after an 88-77 victory over New Orleans on Thursday night, they will have at least one more playoff game, in a semifinal against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday (1 p.m. CT, ESPN).
Edey,, the No. 9 overall pick in the draft, injured his right ankle just before the end of the first half against the Pelicans as he chased a potential block attempt and landed on an opponent's foot. This came after he missed five games following a 14-point, 15-rebound effort in his Salt Lake City Summer League debut July 8 while matched up against Walker Kessler.
Spencer, the 55th overall pick out of UConn, rolled his ankle Monday in the third quarter of the Grizzlies' game against the Mavericks and has not returned to action. The guard has impressed with his shooting and feel for the game in both Salt Lake and Las Vegas, finishing with averages of 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in his three-game Salt Lake City stint.
