LSU's Ashton Larson robs Georgia's Dylan Goldstein on web gem catch in SEC Baseball Tournament

LSU baseball is putting together a strong defensive performance in the opening round of the 2024 SEC Baseball Tournament.

One of the biggest highlights so far goes to right fielder Ashton Larson, who went airborne and crashed into the right field wall at Hoover Metropolitan Complex in Hoover, Alabama, for an inning-ending web gem off the bat of Georgia hitter Dylan Goldstein. Larson was down on the field momentarily to collect himself after the violent crash but was able to run off the field.

While the ball was unlikely to leave the park, it was still a strong effort and catch on the part of Larson for LSU, which had a couple of big defensive plays on Tuesday. The Tigers, which entered as the No. 11 seed, led No. 6 seed Georgia 6-1 in the seventh inning of the SEC Tournament. The first day is single-elimination games, as the tournament turns into a double-elimination tournament starting Wednesday in the second round.

Tommy White retires Charlie Condon on web gem play

Larson wasn't the only player to record a web gem play for the Tigers on Tuesday. SEC Player of the Year Charlie Condon lined a ball to third base, where Tommy White snagged the ball going to a knee to his right to record the final out of the inning. Condon likewise had robbed White of a potential hit prior to this play.
