Indiana Fever fall to Las Vegas Aces: Recap, Caitlin Clark stats tonight, highlights

The Indiana Fever nearly pulled off a comeback, but ultimately fell short of the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night, 78-74.

Caitlin Clark was scoreless at one point in the third quarter, but she caught fire and scored 14 points in that period alone. She finished with 18 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell led the team with 20 points.

Final: Las Vegas Aces outlast Indiana Fever

The Fever had a chance to tie things up but Aliyah Boston missed a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left. Chelsea Gray made both free throw attempts to extend the lead to 5. Temi Fagbenle made a layup with 4 seconds left. But Gray went back to the free throw line and made 1 of 2 attempts.

Caitlin Clark finished with 18 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 20 points.

Aliyah Boston made a jumper at 2:25 to pull Indiana within 2 points. A'ja Wilson, the two-time MVP who is a heavy favorite to win her third award this season, went to the free throw line at 2:05 and made both attempts.

Caitlin Clark made a layup at 1:48 to cut Las Vegas' lead to 72-70. Indiana got the ball back and Clark tried for a 3 but couldn't find the bottom of the net. Kelsey Plum made a huge 3 with 56 seconds left. Damiris Dantas answered with a basket at 0:42.2. She's up to 9 points.

Damiris Dantas tied it at 60-60 with a 3-pointer at 9:41. Chelsea Gray made a layup at 8:26 to give Las Vegas the lead again. Kelsey Plum hit a 3 at 7:33 to extend the lead to 65-60.

Caitlin Clark turned it up in the third. She scored 14 points in that period alone. She also has 7 assists and 4 rebounds. The Fever are right back in this one.

Caitlin Clark scored her first points of the game at the 7:40 mark with a layup. She has 7 assists. Clark hit a deep 3 at 5:25. That's her first of the night. Chelsea Gray answered with a 3 of her own.

Clark responded with a jumper at 4:59. She now has 7 points and 7 assists. Clark made another basket at 3:18.

Caitlin Clark is one whistle away from a one-game suspension.

The Fever rookie picked up her sixth technical foul of the season Friday night against the Las Vegas Aces. She slapped the stanchion following a foul call against her, leading to both a personal foul and a technical.

Las Vegas retook the lead with a Kelsey Plum 3-pointer at 8:06. Tiffany Hayes then scored for the Aces.

Kelsey Mitchell responded with a basket at 7:20. Megan Gustafson, who attended Iowa, made a 3 at 6:46. Las Vegas has swung things their way with an 11-9 run to open the second period. At 5:27, Mitchell sunk a 3 to cut the Aces' lead to 30-25. She followed that with a jumper at 4:55.

Caitlin Clark broke the single-season assists record, which was previously held by Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun.
