KU AD Travis Goff highlights record ticket-revenue haul, more as Board of Directors meet
LAWRENCE — The latest Kansas Athletics Board of Directors meeting Monday provided another opportunity for KU’s director of athletics, Travis Goff, to express appreciation for his contract extension.
Goff thanked the university’s chancellor, Douglas Girod, as well as the leadership as a whole. Goff noted he understands that trust in allowing him to remain at the helm isn’t always a given for someone in his position, and he won’t taken it for granted. It means a lot to him to be able to continue to be a part of propelling this Jayhawks department forward.

That wasn’t the only noteworthy moment, though, and here are five more things to take away from this meeting:
Kansas sets fiscal year record for ticket revenue
Goff said the fiscal year will wrap up in the coming weeks, but he already knew they’d set a record in ticket revenue of just under $26 million. The men’s basketball and football programs were the main reasons why, and Goff made sure to point out that’s without the benefit of the renovations that are underway for both venues. For comparison, the NCAA financial statement for fiscal year 2023 listed ticket revenue at a little more than $22 million.
Travis Goff expresses confidence in KU’s standing nationally
Goff mentioned that with everything that’s going on in college athletics, it’s important — and perhaps even necessary — to have more alignment among campus leaders than ever before. Goff added that in some ways, he felt KU is the envy of some around the country because of how aligned his university is. He’s pleased and proud to be a part of this chapter of the Big 12 Conference, too.
Goff also alluded to reports of things that are in motion regarding the Big 12, without specifying beyond that. He said what’s happening is a demonstration of the progressive approach the Big 12 has had since its commissioner, Brett Yormark, took over. Goff noted some of what’s being done is in the realm of driving new revenue, and some in regards to being innovative with scheduling and tactics to elevate the conference’s brand.
Kansas is continuing to prepare to play its football games away from Lawrence
Jason Booker, a deputy athletics director for external affairs and revenue generation, said it will be a significant undertaking to move Kansas football’s game day experiences. They are continuing to work with the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL organization whose stadium in Kansas City, Missouri will be where the Big 12 games are played. They are continuing to work with Sporting Kansas City, the MLS organization whose stadium in Kansas City, Kansas will be where the non-conference games are played.
But Booker also highlighted they are excited about the opportunities those moves will bring, as renovations continue at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. He mentioned fans will be able to get a taste of certain premium options that the renovations in Lawrence are, in part, looking to address. They are also coming up with a plan to bus students to and from the games safely, and have a working group of local business partners, season-ticket holders and campus partners who are focusing on events that can be held locally.
Gateway District project is on schedule
The Gateway District project that concerns the football stadium and more is on schedule, according to Sean Lester. Lester, a deputy athletics director for administration, noted how people — including football recruits — can see the progress of the project with their own eyes as they move around the area. Lester added the football team in July will move into a reimagined Anderson Family Football Complex, too.
Kansas’ track at Rock Chalk Park is being resurfaced
Lester said they are resurfacing the track that’s located at Rock Chalk Park. It’s an effort to have the best track possible. He brought up how they will be hosting the Big 12 championships next year.
