Chase Buford returns as Kansas men's basketball analyst, and more KU Athletics news

LAWRENCE — There’s been a lot to talk about around Kansas Athletics in recent weeks, as the summer has continued.

The football program just earned a commitment from an offensive lineman who started his career in the Southeastern Conference. The men’s basketball program earned a commitment, and signing, from a guard who also played in the SEC last season. The Jayhawks’ women’s basketball program is in the early stages of preparing to challenge for a Big 12 Conference title.

That’s not all that’s taken place, though, and here’s an update on some more news to know:

Chase Buford returns to Kansas men’s basketball as analyst

Kansas fans may remember Chase Buford as a player from the men’s basketball program’s NCAA championship team in 2008. Now, he’s returning to KU as an analyst.

Kansas coach Bill Self announced the news. Buford brings experience from a number of roles at the professional level. He’s also been a head coach in the NBA’s G League.

KU’s track and field programs earn recognition at NCAA outdoor national championships

Kansas’ track and field programs saw seven athletes earn All-America status. Among those honorees was first-team talent Clayton Simms with a second-place finish in men's pole vault, and second-team talent Yoveinny Mota with a 14th-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles. The men’s team finished 10th in the overall standings.

Kansas women’s golfer achieves international success

Johanna Ebner, who’ll be a senior for Kansas women’s golf this upcoming season, won the 2024 Women’s International Austrian Amateur Championship.

“It was a great week,” Ebner said in a KU release. “The course had a challenging layout and it demanded a solid game in all areas. You really need to trust your game to do well here. I enjoyed competing on a golf course that is challenging and gorgeous at the same time. I am very thankful for everyone that supports and believes in me.”

KU baseball standout earns multiple freshman All-America honors

Dominic Voegele starred as one of Kansas baseball’s starting pitchers during his freshman year. Perfect Game named him a second-team, freshman All-American. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named him a first-team, freshman All-American.

Big 12 Conference releases dates, times and TV designations for Kansas football’s non-conference games

The Big 12 Conference announced the dates, times and TV designations for Kansas football’s non-conference games.

KU will face Lindenwood on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. CT at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas on ESPN+; at Illinois on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. CT on FS1; UNLV on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. CT at Children’s Mercy Park on ESPN. The UNLV game was originally scheduled for Sept. 14.
