Kadyn Proctor injury update: Status of Alabama left tackle vs South Florida

The Crimson Tide football team continued practice Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, as they prepare for the season opener and the first game under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor (74) secures his helmet during practice.

No. 4 Alabama football looks to have a less stressful game than last year on Saturday against South Florida, as it celebrates former head coach Nick Saban with the namesake of the field at Bryant Denny Stadium.

But the Crimson Tide will have to do so without left tackle Kadyn Proctor.

According to ESPN's college football insider Pete Thamel on X (formerly Twitter), Proctor is "doubtful" to play Saturday against the Bulls as he continues to deal with a shoulder injury.

It will mark the second consecutive game that Proctor, who famously returned to Alabama in the offseason after transferring to Iowa after last season, will miss. His injury came during warmups last week in Week 1 vs. Western Kentucky, which caused the left tackle to leave the field and be tended to by trainers in the locker room. He returned to the field in street clothes and what looked like a sling under his shirt.

Here's Proctor's status for Saturday night's game vs USF along with a look back at his injury from last week:

Per Thamel, Proctor is doubtful to play at left tackle for the Crimson Tide vs. the Bulls on Saturday night.

Serving in Proctor's place at left tackle will likely be Elijah Pritchett, who started for Proctor vs. Western Kentucky.

While Alabama has not made an official announcement on Proctor's status vs. USF, he was still listed at LT in the Tide's depth chart that was handed out in the press box Saturday. Alabama did not update the depth chart this week.

Kaydn Proctor injury update

The Alabama left tackle is currently dealing with a lingering shoulder injury.

He sustained the injury during warmups in Alabama's season opener last Saturday vs. Western Kentucky, which caused him to miss the game itself. Following the game, Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer told the assembled media in Tuscaloosa that Proctor's injury caught him off guard.

During his news conference on Monday, DeBoer called Proctor's injury "manageable."

"Kadyn's got a shoulder situation there. It's one we will be able to manage, so that's a positive. As the week goes, it's something we can continue to evaluate and be hopeful for," DeBoer said.

DeBoer provided the following update on Wednesday during the SEC coaches call on his offensive lineman, citing that Proctor was still going through some rehab.

"He's working towards it," DeBoer said. "We'll have to kind of see right towards the end of the week. If it was up to him, you know, he'd probably be out there but we got to be smart and that means that these days earlier in the week, we've got to be smart and careful. He's doing really well. He's pretty much living in the training room. He's got strong aspirations to get on the field as fast as possible. I can't say one way or the other kind of where that would be as of right now with still three days left before we play."
