Alabama football's Kalen DeBoer gives a midweek injury update on Kadyn Proctor

Alabama football's Kalen DeBoer said Kadyn Proctor is "working towards" playing in Saturday's game against South Florida but that they will have to wait until the end of the week to make a decision.

Proctor injured his left shoulder during warmups for Alabama's season-opening contest against Western Kentucky and had to watch the game from the sideline.

On Wednesday, DeBoer said Proctor has "strong aspirations" to get onto the field but that he was unsure whether the offensive lineman will suit up Saturday. It comes two days after DeBoer called Proctor's injury "manageable."

"He's working towards it," DeBoer said during the Southeastern Conference coaches call Wednesday. "We'll have to kind of see right towards the end of the week. If it was up to him, you know, he'd probably be out there but we got to be smart and that means that these days earlier in the week, we've got to be smart and careful. He's doing really well. He's pretty much living in the training room. He's got strong aspirations to get on the field as fast as possible. I can't say one way or the other kind of where that would be as of right now with still three days left before we play."

On Saturday, Proctor came out for warmups in full uniform, leaving the field shortly thereafter with trainers. He returned in street clothes and what looked to be his left arm in a sling under a shirt. Proctor won the left tackle starting job during preseason camp after missing spring practices because of a temporary transfer to Iowa.

Starting in Proctor's place on the Crimson Tide's offensive line Saturday was Elijah Pritchett, who had been expected to rotate at right tackle with Wilkin Formby. Pritchett, instead, got the start at left tackle while Formby got the start at right tackle. DeBoer went onto praise Pritchett and his play Saturday along with teammate Tyler Booker.

DeBoer added on “Hey Coach” Wednesday night that Proctor is more day-to-day rather than week-to-week.

Under new rules, the SEC now requires coaches to make public injury reports this season. The mandate, though, only applies to games featuring two teams from the SEC.
