Alabama football's Kalen DeBoer, Tyler Booker on Elijah Pritchett's performance at left tackle

Alabama football's offensive line has been a talking point through all of fall camp, specifically at the right tackle position with the ongoing battle between Wilkin Formby and Elijah Pritchett.

Coaches made it clear that the right tackle battle will be ongoing through the season, but Saturday's game brought more questions about the Crimson Tide's offensive line.

This time in the left tackle spot.

After Kadyn Proctor was seemingly injured during warmups and returned to the field with what looked to be his left arm in a sling and in street clothes, it was Pritchett who filled in his place on the offensive line while Formby got the start at right tackle. It wasn't an entirely new change for the 6-foot-6, 327-pound redshirt sophomore, who worked at the left tackle spot during spring practice due to Proctor's temporary transfer to Iowa.

Miles McVay was initially listed as Proctor's backup on the depth chart released prior to the game, but DeBoer and his staff ultimately opted to start Pritchett.

"(Pritchett) has taken pretty much all of his reps at the right tackle spot (through fall camp)," DeBoer said on Saturday. "I think it really went back to what he did this spring playing left tackle and it was something that I know gave me confidence and I'm sure gave him (confidence)."

Left guard and team captain Tyler Booker, who took majority of his reps during the spring with Pritchett at left tackle, said he was "very proud" of Pritchett and his performance on Saturday.

"I think Pritch had a really good game," Booker said on Tuesday. "Obviously, there's room for improvement from everybody but for Pritch to come out after working at right tackle for a while. To be able to go in there and play left tackle, he hasn't played that in a while. He played a really good game and I'm very excited to see how he progresses through the season."

In Saturday's 63-0 win, Pritchett gave up just one sack for a loss of seven yards in the first quarter. It was the only sack the Crimson Tide offensive line allowed as it went onto finish with 600 total yards, 334 of those coming from the run game.

"As an offensive linemen you always have to adjust to adversity and really attack it," Booker said. "Because you never know what's going to happen ... There's just a lot going on but at the end of the day, we have to be the tone setters for the offense."

Alabama continues its 2024 season at home this weekend, hosting South Florida at Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium. On Monday, DeBoer called Proctor's condition "manageable," but did not reveal if he will be ready to go come Saturday.
