Joel Embiid to require surgery on left eye after suffering concussion against Knicks

Philadelphia center Joel Embiid will require surgery to fix an orbital fracture on his left eye, the 76ers announced Thursday afternoon.

Embiid suffered a concussion early in the second quarter on Wednesday night against the Knicks after colliding with Markelle Fultz.

Embiid was diagnosed with a concussion and put into concussion protocol, and later underwent a CT scan at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, which is when doctors noticed the orbital fracture in his left eye.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe is reporting that Embiid will likely miss two to four weeks recovering from the surgery, which could impact the 76ers in the postseason.

“I guess I gotta trust “The Process” that I’ve been preaching,” Embiid wrote on Twitter Thursday night. “Unfortunate freak accident but I’ll be more than fine.”

Embiid is averaging 22.9 points and 11 rebounds per game this season. Philadelphia currently holds the fourth-seed in the Eastern Conference.
