Ja'Marr Chase added to Bengals' injury report with illness, questionable vs. Patriots

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was added to the injury report on Saturday with an illness.

Chase’s status for the season opener against the Patriots was already in question due to contract reasons. Now, the illness brings even more questions around his availability for Sunday’s game.

The team promoted wide receiver Kendrick Pryor from the practice squad as the wide receiver room is dealing with a lot of adversity. Tee Higgins tweaked his hamstring in Thursday’s practice and won’t play on Sunday. Higgins has a history of hamstring injuries in his career and the recovery timeline will be based off how severe the injury is.

With Chase’s status up in the air and no Higgins, look for quarterback Joe Burrow to target Trenton Irwin, Andrei Iosivas, Charlie Jones and Mike Gesicki in the pass game.

Cincinnati will likely rely heavily on their run game if Chase doesn’t play.

Chase is seeking a new deal from the Bengals and said he believes both sides are “close” to reaching an agreement. To this point, Chase and coach Zac Taylor have refrained from saying one way or another if Chase is expected to play or not.
