Instant analysis: Bills roll Dolphins in Week 2 win
The Buffalo Bills went into Hard Rock Stadium to take on the Miami Dolphins on "Thursday Night Football" and came away with a convincing divisional win, 31-10.
Quarterback Josh Allen had been dealing with a left-hand injury leading into this game on a short week. Luckily for him, he didn't need to do a whole lot for the Bills to win. The Bills defense stepped up big time after injuries to key players and the offense was able to run the ball effectively.
When you have a defense forcing turnovers and an offense that can move the ball on the ground, you are going to be a tough team to beat. Not only did the Bills look good as a whole, but the Dolphins (1-1) generally looked bad as a whole, especially on offense. They constantly turned it over at inopportune times and the Bills (2-0) retaliated with clean, hard-nosed football.
The win is a momentum builder for a young Bills team with a lot to prove this year. They were able to travel down to Florida in the heat and not only come away with the win on a short week, but they won convincingly and turned some heads in the process. The majority of experts picked Miami, but they must have somehow missed how much Sean McDermott and Allen have beaten up on them over the past seven years.
Here is the instant analysis from Week 2:

James Cook ran 11 times for 78 yards (7.1 ypc) and scored 2 rushing touchdowns. He added a 17-yard touchdown catch to end the game with 3 scores.

Ed Oliver and Von Miller each had a sack.
Damar Hamlin, Baylon Spector, and Dorian Williams each paced the Bills with 10 total tackles.
The Bills passed 19 times and ran the ball 26 times.
The Dolphins had 20 first downs to the Bills' 13. They also won the time of possession battle (36:19 - 23:41) and produced over 100 more points than the Bills (351 - 247).

Deciding factors
Bills running game: The offensive line was carving holes for James Cook pretty consistently, and even for Ray Davis at times, too. Cook had a 49-yard run that opened up the game to a 24-7 lead early on. The Bills are committed to playing balanced football and it's paying dividends.
Joe Brady: The Bills' offensive numbers won't blow you away due to how big of a lead they had early on, but OC Joe Brady was dialed in and made the most of the Bills' time with the football. We saw multiple screens, an effective running game, efficient passing, and only a couple of times where Allen needed to put on his cape and make a play.
Bills defense: The Bills defense played lights out. Coming into the game without Taron Johnson and Matt Milano, the wound widened in the middle of the field as Terrel Bernard left early with a pectoral injury. Despite missing all three starting players in the middle of the defense, the team forced three huge turnovers and only allowed 10 total points to a dangerous offense loaded with speed at the skill positions. Not to mention scoring a touchdown of their own on the Ja'marcus Ingram pick six. Baylon Spector filled in for Bernard nicely, and the secondary and defensive lines were both rock solid.
Dolphins' mistakes: The Dolphins deserved to lose this game. Multiple miscues between Tagovailoa and his receivers led to multiple turnovers. The margin of error is pretty slim in the Dolphins' passing attack, and they were just not quite on the same page for much of the night. The short week seemed to affect the team that didn't need to travel.
Injuries
Terrel Bernard left the game early in the first quarter and did not return.
Tua Tagovailoa left the game with a concussion in the third quarter after colliding with Damr Hamlin and will enter concussion protocol. He was able to get up and walk away but it is concerning given his concussion history.
What's next?
The Bills (2-0) will host the Jaguars (0-1) in Week 3 on Monday Night Football. After a short week, the Bills will now get a long rest for their next game. The Jaguars had a disappointing loss against Miami in Week 1 and will face the Browns this Sunday at home.
