5 takeaways from the Bills' 31-10 win against the Dolphins
The Buffalo Bills continued their 2024 NFL season with a Week 2 win. The Bills (2-0) topped the Miami Dolphins (1-1), 31-10, on the road at Hard Rock Stadium.
Entering the contest, it was billed as close contest on paper. As Buffalo has their sights on a fifth-straight AFC East title, it looked like there's a good chance of that happening.
With that, here are five takeaways from the Bills' win over the Dolphins:
Cooked from the get go
Who would ever write before this game let quarterback Josh Allen "cook," not running back James Cook?
Well, we did, and we are sorry to you, James.
What a day at the office for him.
Cook completely took this game over. The Pro Bowl rusher only had 11 carries and averaged 7.1 yards-per-carry. He totaled 78.
Let's get to the real point: Three touchdowns, all in the first half. This will be the "James Cook game," forever, going forward. Cook had two on the ground and one in the air. His third and final one was a 49-yard rush, one play after a turnover, which essentially iced the game... before halftime. The Bills went up 24-7 and were rolling.
Dare we say Von is back?
It's early and we have a lot of time left in the 2024 season... but is Von Miller back?
After returning from an ACL injury last season, Miller was woeful. He always seems motivated but that is paying off this year.
After Miller had a sack last week, he had another in Miami. Right after Tua Tagovailoa left the game due to a concussion, he had a sack on backup Skylar Thompson to kill any momentum the Dolphins might have tried to grab.
The 35-year-old was the "closer" the Bills wanted.
Backups step up, Ingram mostly
Nickel cornerback Taron Johnson (forearm) was ruled out early this week. That meant a dose of Cam Lewis and Ja'Marcus Ingram was going to come at you.
Last week, Lewis got a lot of credit. This week, it's Ingram.
Ingram stepped up in a huge way with two interceptions, including a pick-six to, again, put away any chance the Dolphins had.
Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich deserve their fair share of credit, too. These guys were ready and always in the right places. The Dolphins got nothing out of their speed, including from receiver Tyreek Hill,
The one injury you did not want
On top of the other defensive standouts, Terrel Bernard (pectoral) left the game. A potential nightmare scenario with Matt Milano (bicep) already out. Baylon Spector stepped in and played great next to Dorian Williams at linebacker.
Hopefully Bernard is OK, but Spector was ready to perform.
A huge win early, make no mistake
On their first prime-time game of the season, the Bills, who were said to have "lost too much talent," beat down their first divisional foe of the year. After this one, Buffalo will have earned their respect across the NFL and will be the AFC East favorite going forward.
A tough slate sits ahead of the Bills now, and many thought because of that theses two first games had to be wins. They were. Kudos earned.
