Grizzlies sign Matthew Hurt of G League's Memphis Hustle to second 10-day contract
The Grizzlies on Monday signed forward Matthew Hurt to a second 10-day contract.
Hurt has been with the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League for most of this season, save for a period earlier this season when he signed his first 10-day contract with the Grizzlies. He's averaging 21.8 points per game for the Hustle and has been one of the top scorers in the G League.
He played in three games for the Grizzlies during his first 10-day contract, averaging 5.7 points per game. Hurt was undrafted out of Duke in 2021.
Hurt's signing is the latest roster move for the Grizzlies during a season that's had to feature lots of them. Memphis has dealt with a litany of injuries and has constantly needed to sign players to 10-day contracts while also shuffling its slate of players on two-way contracts. When Hurt was signed to his first 10-day contract last month, the Grizzlies needed him to be active that day just to have enough active players to meet the NBA criteria for the game to be played.
Six players — Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, Brandon Clarke, Scotty Pippen Jr. and John Konchar — are listed as out for the Grizzlies' Monday game against the Brooklyn Nets at FedExForum.
The Grizzlies had guard Jordan Goodwin on a 10-day contract that expired after Friday night's loss to the Clippers, but Goodwin was then signed to a two-way contract on Saturday. Jacob Gilyard, who had been on a two-way contract, was waived in a corresponding move.
