Memphis Grizzlies waive Jacob Gilyard, sign Jordan Goodwin to two-way contract

The Grizzlies made another roster move on Saturday afternoon, signing guard Jordan Goodwin to a two-way contract and waiving guard Jacob Gilyard.

Goodwin had been with the team on a 10-day contract that expired after Friday's loss to the Clippers at FedExForum. Gilyard was with the Memphis Hustle of the G League during last season and then was signed to a two-way contract with the Grizzlies before this season.

Players on two-way contracts can only be active for 50 of 82 games, and Gilyard has had to play a significant role for the Grizzlies this season because of all the injuries Memphis has dealt with. That meant he only had one game left after Friday.

Goodwin's available days will be prorated for the rest of the season, so he'll be able to play more games for the Grizzlies. He was with the Suns earlier this season before he was waived after being traded to the Nets. He was undrafted out of Saint Louis in 2021 and began his career with the Capital City Go-Go and then played with the Wizards.

He played in two games during his 10-day contract with the Grizzlies, scoring in double figures in both contests.

"I've learned a lot," Goodwin told the Commercial Appeal on Friday night. "I learned how this group is kind of undermanned with all the injuries. It just shows that you don't need all these star players to go out there and compete every night."

Gilyard is averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 assists per game this season. He made 14 starts for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies have now completely cycled through their two-way players this season. They began the season with Gilyard, Vince Williams Jr. and GG Jackson on two-way deals, but Jackson and Williams have since been signed to standard contracts. Goodwin, Trey Jemison and Scotty Pippen Jr. are now the two-way players on the roster.
