Georgia coach Mike White saw Montgomery up close this past season. Montgomery scored 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting against Georgia in a 94-82 Bulldogs win in Athens on Dec. 20. He also scored 22 points with four steals in a loss at Ole Miss on Dec. 5.

“The coaches told me they liked how I got downhill and that I could playmake,” Montgomery said of Georgia in an interview with On3. “They want me as a combo, to play the one and the two.”

Montgomery was the team’s second leading scorer at 13.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and led the team in steals with 54 while averaging 2.0 assists per game. He shot 53.8 percent from the field and was 28 of 68 on 3-point tries.

Georgia won out over Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Cal.

“I’m fun to watch,” Montgomery said. “I’m very energetic, get the crowd involved. I like to keep it fun. I’ll watch a lot of Brandon Ingram and Kevin Durant. I watch how they get to their shots and set up their defenders, their hesi-pull-ups.”

Montgomery started 10 games for a team that went 13-19, moving into the starting lineup down the stretch.

While Georgia lost five players to the transfer portal since the season ended, it retained starting point guard Silas Demary Jr., an SEC All-Freshman selection.
