Who is FSU football's backup quarterback? Seminoles' depth chart behind Brock Glenn

A hand injury spoiled a potential reunion between DJ Uiagalelei and Clemson football on Saturday.

When Florida State football (1-4, 1-3 ACC) takes on the No. 14 Tigers (3-1, 2-0 ACC) on Saturday from Tallahassee, it will turn to redshirt freshman Brock Glenn at quarterback with DJ Uiagalelei out for the game after he sustained a hand injury against SMU in Week 5. Uiagalelei played at Clemson from 2020-22 before transferring to Oregon State in 2023 and to FSU this offseason.

Glenn is in line to make this third career start and second appearance of the 2024 college football season. He entered in relief of Uiagalelei in the fourth quarter of last week's loss following an interception returned for a touchdown. Glenn's two other starts in college came last season in the ACC championship game vs. Louisville and against Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

Glenn did not complete any of his four passes against the Mustangs. For his career, he has completed 19 of 55 passes (34.5%) for 229 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions.

Here’s a look at Florida State's depth chart and options at quarterback beyond its former four-star quarterback:

Who is Florida State football's backup quarterback?

Glenn is the only FSU quarterback on the roster with any collegiate experience. On Monday, Luke Kromenhoek was listed as third on the depth chart and as the backup to Uiagalelei and Glenn, who were listed as "or" as the starters.

Kromenhoek was the No. 59 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports' Composite rankings. He was the No. 5 QB in the class and the No. 9 player from Georgia, hailing from Benedictine Military School in Savannah.

As a senior, Kromenhoek completed 168 of 267 (62.9%) passes for 2,578 yards with 24 touchdowns and two interceptions as Benedictine went 13-1. He also added 558 yards and seven rushing scores.

None of the other three quarterbacks on Florida State's roster are on scholarship. Trever Jackson, a former four-star quarterback who had been pledged to Ole Miss, committed to the Seminoles in January out of Jones High in Orlando. He was the 391st-ranked player in the 2024 class, per 247Sports Composite.

Michael Grant and Dylan McNamara were both with FSU last season, working out with the Seminoles' scout team. Both dressed out for the ACC championship game and Orange Bowl.

Uiagalelei was listed as the co-starter with Glenn on Monday when Florida State released its weekly depth chart. However, Norvell indicated Uiagalelei was dealing with an injury he sustained against SMU on Saturday. On Tuesday, the Democrat confirmed Uiagalelei would miss Saturday's game vs. Clemson.

With Uiagalelei out for Saturday's contest against Clemson, here's a look at the Seminoles' depth chart:

  1. Brock Glenn, redshirt freshman

  2. Luke Kromenhoek, freshman

  3. Trever Jackson or Dylan McNamara or Michael Grant
