Maybe getting out of ACC play is just what Florida State football needs to get its first win of the 2024 season. Then again, the Seminoles can't count out Memphis, who comes to Tallahassee on Saturday.

The Tigers will be facing their former head coach. Mike Norvell led Memphis from 2016-19, compiling a 38-16 record and four straight bowl appearances, including a berth in the 2019 Cotton Bowl. Now coached by Ryan Silverfield, Memphis is off to a 2-0 start behind quarterback Seth Henigan and running back Mario Anderson.

Meanwhile, FSU is 0-2 after two straight flops against Georgia Tech and Boston College. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has completed less than 60% of his passes and thrown just one touchdown, while the supposedly stacked defense led by Patrick Payton and Marvin Jones Jr. has been gashed in both losses. FSU's hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff are already hanging by a thread.

Will this be the week FSU shakes off the rust? Here's what college football experts predict will happen, plus odds for the game:

SI.com: Take the over

Reed Wallach writes: "Memphis has a potent offense with (quarterback Seth) Hengian in control, and I’m not sold on this FSU defense playing at an above-average level. I’ll grab the over with questions for both defense and also the opportunity to buy low on the Noles offense."

Hero Sports: Memphis wins and covers

Colton Pool writes: "The play of transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei hasn’t been spectacular. And as an offense, the Seminoles are averaging just 17 points and 292 yards per game. Granted that was against two ACC teams in Georgia Tech and Boston College. But the thing is, Memphis also has the talent of an ACC-level program in 2024. ... I think this game will be close, but I’m anticipating the Tigers will score enough in the fourth quarter and will force a few key turnovers to triumph here."

Our FSU vs Memphis predictions: Can the Seminoles avoid an 0-3 start?

PickDawgz: Back Memphis

Randy Chambers writes: "Florida State has shown nothing offensively with Uiagalelei at quarterback, and the Noles defense can't stop the run. Florida State is also 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games as a favorite. Mario Anderson is off to a great start for Memphis, and he should be licking his chops seeing this Florida State defense. Give me Memphis and the free touchdown and after those two games I may sprinkle something on that Tigers ML. Florida State is a complete joke."

College Football Network: FSU wins 31-17

Colin Lynch writes: "In his last two seasons at Florida State, Norvell is 23-4 with the ‘Noles. That’s not an accident. The pendulum swings the other way, and Norvell can at least salvage this season to some extent and will prevent it from becoming a complete disaster. That starts this weekend against Memphis, and it begins by getting the offense going."

Underdog Dynasty: FSU wins 31-24

Steve Helwick writes: "Memphis will keep this close with a reliable quarterback in Seth Henigan, but Henigan features a different type of quarterback than the previous two Florida State faced. He’s the best passer the Seminoles have encountered, but doesn’t rely on his mobility as much as Haynes King and Thomas Castellanos, who torched Florida State with this talent. Lastly, the Tigers’ defense looks sharp early but hasn’t been tested to this degree yet, and Florida State’s offense finally finds its run game through Roydell Williams and Lawrance Toafili."
