FSU football predictions, odds: Do experts think Seminoles bounce back vs Boston College?

The Florida State football team can't start the 2024 college football season 0-2 ... right?

No. 10 FSU hopes to rebound on familiar soil when it plays Boston College on Monday night. The Seminoles were shocked in the season opener in Ireland with a last-second 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech. New quarterback DJ Uiagalelei did not look sharp in rainy Dublin, going 19 of 27 for just 193 yards, though he could get starting receiver Hykeem Williams back this week.

The Seminoles had better not sleep on the Eagles. Though they went just 7-6 last season, BC gave FSU a run for its money, staging a late rally in a narrow 31-29 defeat in Chestnut Hill. Bill O'Brien takes over as head coach this year, and quarterback Thomas Castellanos, who threw for 305 yards and ran for 95, is back under center.

Can FSU recover in the Doak Campbell Stadium opener? Here's what college football experts predict will happen, plus odds for the game:

Our FSU vs Boston College prediction: Can the Seminoles get a win?

Sporting News: FSU wins 34-20

Bill Bender writes: "Florida State is coming off a shocking Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech, and Boston College is pressing reset with first-year coach Bill O'Brien. The Seminoles should have more down-field opportunities with DJ Uiagalelei in this game, especially if Hykeem Williams returns. This spread looks high considering the Eagles lost 31-29 last season in a game where quarterback Thomas Castellanos had 305 passing yards and 95 rushing yards. The Eagles will try to copy-cat Georgia Tech, but the Seminoles will pull away in the fourth quarter."

The Athletic: FSU wins 31-20

Bruce Feldman writes: "The Seminoles did not look good on either side of the ball last week against Georgia Tech. I’m betting on Mike Norvell getting some of those issues sorted out, but I think BC’s speedy quarterback Thomas Castellanos will do some damage. He gave the Noles fits last year and almost led the Eagles to a big upset."

247 Sports: FSU wins, but do they cover?

Chris Hummer picks Florida State to win 38-21: "There's a bit of mystery around what BC will look like under Bill O'Brien, but almost the entire offense is back and there were some defensive upgrades made in the portal. Plus, the game between these two last year went down to the wire. Florida State wins but give me the Eagles to cover."

Brad Crawford picks Florida State to win 35-14: "The worst-case scenario unfolded for Bill O'Brien heading into his opener for Boston College in Tallahassee — the Seminoles are coming in with a loss. ... I'm not overreacting to the Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech, here. FSU is more talented at almost every position on the field and should play much more sound in front of its home crowd."

PickDawgz: Boston College covers

David Racey writes: "Boston College should have a very solid offensive attack this season with Castellanos back under center, but their defense is a concern. I don’t want to overreact to that first performance by Florida State, but I also don’t like their quarterback and think they are going to struggle to score points this year. Take Boston College with the points."
