Florida State football vs. Boston College game prediction: Can the Seminoles get a win?

Florida State football takes the field at Doak Campbell Stadium for the first time in the 2024 season on Monday, hosting Boston College.

The game is set for Sep. 2, at 7:30 p.m.

After the disappointing week zero 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, FSU is looking to leave the negative feelings of Saturday's loss behind them. Facing an Eagles program under new head Bill O'Brien, the Seminoles face a challenge in keeping quarterback Thomas Castellanos quiet.

Last season's game ended in thrilling fashion, with the Seminoles hanging on to a 31-29 victory over Boston College. FSU has won five straight against the Eagles, with all but one of those wins coming by a single score or less.

The Seminoles have won nine straight home games and are 59-18 all-time in home openers.

Will Monday break that mold? Can FSU make it six wins in a row or will Boston College add another loss to the Seminoles' record?

Here are FSU beat reporters Liam Rooney and Peter Holland Jr's predictions for Monday night's game.

Liam Rooney's score prediction

Florida State 30, Boston College 21: The Seminoles win in bounce-back fashion after the week zero disappointment to Georgia Tech. The offensive playbook opens up more for DJ Uiagalelei and FSU moves the ball down the field better to allow the skill position players the opportunity to make plays.

The wide receivers, particularly Ja'Khi Douglas and Malik Benson, and the running backs, Lawrance Toafili and Roydell Williams, create explosive moments and the defensive front steps up after a disappointing first performance. FSU gets a quick score in the first quarter and maintains that momentum throughout the rest of the game.

It won't be an easy game as the Eagles come to town looking for a first win under new head coach Bill O'Brien and Castellanos will challenge the defense with his running ability, but, the Seminoles should be able to do enough to win. However, if the issues that were present in the Georgia Tech loss pop up, FSU could be in for a long night.

Peter Holland's scoring prediction

Florida State Football 27 Boston College 13: The Seminoles will bounce back and play efficiently on both sides. I expect the FSU defense will come to play. They now have something to prove after a disappointing performance against Georgia Tech.

Mike Norvell must play into quarterbacks DJ Uiagalelei's strength, which is throwing the ball downfield. Uiagalelei must also play consistently and find his receivers while they are downfield. He must get the ball quickly to his playmakers.

I can see him having a two-touchdown performance against the Eagles. FSU looked better in the second half once they opened the playbook to Oregon State transfer.
