It's the first full Saturday of the 2024 college football season. When does Florida State play?

Well, they're not. Not yet, anyway. The FSU football season has a few extra days before the No. 10 Seminoles take the field for their home opener at Doak Campbell Stadium against Boston College.

This is the fourth straight season Florida State has not played on the first full Saturday of the season. FSU kicked off 2023 with a Sunday night showdown with LSU in Orlando. The Seminoles did open the 2022 season on a Saturday, but they hosted Duquesne during Week 0 when only 11 games were played. They again faced LSU in Week 1, but that game also was on a Sunday. In 2021, FSU lost a season-opening overtime thriller to Notre Dame, again on a Sunday.

Why isn't FSU football playing today?

Florida State started its season a week before most other teams, playing Georgia Tech in the first game of the 2024 college football season in Dublin, Ireland. It was FSU's first ever game abroad.

It didn't go well. New quarterback DJ Uiagalelei struggled in the rainy conditions, and the Yellow Jackets pulled off a 24-21 upset on a last-second field goal by Aaron Birr. It was the Seminoles' first ACC loss since October 15, 2022 (12 games).

FSU returned from Ireland on Monday afternoon, a day after Georgia Tech came back to the United States. Coach Mike Norvell let the players do some sightseeing knowing they had extra time before their next game, which takes place on Labor Day Monday. Florida State has next week off, as well, so the first full college football Saturday that will include FSU is September 14 when they host Memphis, Norvell's old team.
