Fred VanVleet impressed by Amen Thompson entering 2024-25 Rockets training camp

In contrast to his seasons playing in a foreign country with the Toronto Raptors, veteran guard Fred VanVleet stayed in his home NBA market after his first season with the Houston Rockets.

So, as VanVleet explained at the opening of training camp for the 2024-25 season, that allowed him to spend more time with his Houston teammates during the 2024 offseason (relative to his offseasons with the Raptors).

At Monday’s media day, VanVleet was asked if any player on the current Rockets looked different during the summer, relative to when they last played in NBA games in March and April.

VanVleet quickly pointed to Amen Thompson, who will be entering his second NBA season this fall:

He actually looks bigger, faster, stronger... more confident, under control. He definitely doesn’t look like a rookie anymore. We started to see that toward the end of the season. He looks poised to have another big year.

When told of VanVleet’s comments, Thompson said:

I feel a lot different. Just getting stronger, getting faster. A lot of growth this summer, and I feel like that's translating to the court.
