Former Kansas basketball player Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk wins NBA championship with Boston
LAWRENCE — It’s been three-straight years that a former Kansas basketball player has been on the NBA team that’s captured the championship.
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, in college with the Jayhawks from 2014-18, became the latest Monday as a member of the Boston Celtics. The Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in a deciding fifth game to win the series four games to one. Mykhailiuk follows Christian Braun (Denver Nuggets, 2023) and Andrew Wiggins (Golden State Warriors, 2022).
Mykhailiuk left KU in 2018 as its Danny Manning Mr. Jayhawk Award winner that year. He went on to be selected in the second round of the NBA draft that year by the Los Angeles Lakers. Mykhailiuk has played for a handful of NBA teams since then, and enjoyed his first with Boston.
While at KU, Mykhailiuk helped the Jayhawks enjoy a lot of regular season and postseason success. He was one of the most prolific 3-pointer shooters the program has ever seen. He was also able to earn All-Big 12 Conference recognition during his career.
