FAMU football offense beleaguered by the Miami Hurricanes
FAMU’s offense started on the wrong foot, with Richardson’s pass being tipped and intercepted by Wesley Bissainthe on the game’s opening drive.
On the Rattlers’ second drive, they reached the goal line but were backed up due to a false start called on running back Thad Franklin Jr.
FAMU couldn’t punch it in and was held to a 22-yard field goal by Cameron Gillis.
The Rattlers’ rushing attack had 25 attempts for 52 yards. FAMU running back Dorian Collier led with 31 yards on five carries.
Richardson had a productive night numbers-wise but was sacked five times, led by Hurricanes defensive lineman Tyler Baron’s three.
FAMU backup quarterback Junior Muratovic subbed in during the third quarter. He finished completing two of 11 passes for seven yards and two interceptions.
FAMU defense no match for Miami Hurricanes offense, quarterback Cam Ward
The Rattlers faced a Heisman hopeful in Ward.
Ward tossed all three of his touchdowns in the first half. The senior quarterback connected with eight different receivers. Xavier Restrepo led the way with four catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Ward was sacked only once by Rattlers defensive back Simion Hines.
FAMU added another sack with Rattlers defensive linemen James Ash and Tyrese Gibson-Battles sharing one on Hurricanes backup quarterback Reese Poffenbarger.
FAMU also couldn’t halt Miami’s rushing attack.
The Hurricanes racked up 224 yards on the ground. Mark Fletcher Jr., Damien Martinez, Jordan Lyle, and Ward scored Miami’s rushing touchdowns.
FAMU football's fumbling issues continue vs Miami Hurricanes
Ball security continues to be an issue for the Rattlers.
In each of its three games, FAMU has fumbled multiple times.
On Saturday, the Rattlers’ receiver Jamari Gassett and tight end Karter Johnson had fumbles.
Luckily for FAMU, both fumbles went out of bounds for it to retain possession.
