FAMU football enters season looking to replicate historic win over Miami Hurricanes

FAMU defeated Miami 16-13 at Doak Campbell Stadium in 1979.

Former Rattlers kicker Vince Coleman, who went on to have an all-star MLB career, kicked the 34-yard game-winning field goal to lift FAMU over Miami.

"Never one time did I think that we were going to lose," Rudy Hubbard, who coached the Rattlers to that victory, told the Tallahassee Democrat this week.

"I’m excited about this game. I think we got a shot. Coach Colzie is going down there to win that game," Hubbard added.

FAMU's 1979 win over Miami is the last time the Rattlers defeated an FBS program.

"We’re going down there with the same mindset," current FAMU head coach James Colzie III said this week.
