ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., Field Yates predict major Tennessee Titans trade in latest NFL mock draft
ESPN NFL draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates predict the Tennessee Titans to be plenty active in their joint mock draft posted Monday, including the team making a major trade and selecting a local product in the first three rounds.
As he has in every mock draft since January, Kiper has the Titans picking Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt in the first round at No. 7. But instead of staying pat at No. 38 in the second round, Yates has the Titans trading their second- and fifth-round (No. 146) to the New York Giants in exchange for their second- and third-rounders (Nos. 47 and 70) to recoup the missing Day 2 pick they exchanged to acquire quarterback Will Levis last April.
With the Giants' second-round pick, Kiper has the Titans picking Penn State edge rusher Adisa Isaac. And then, in the third round, Yates uses the Titans' newly-acquired pick to grab Michigan linebacker Junior Colson, the Ravenwood High School product who spent most of his childhood in the Nashville area.
By adding Isaac and Colson, the Titans address two of their bigger defensive weaknesses. Colson can plug in at inside linebacker next to free agent signee Kenneth Murray Jr., continuing the process of building depth in the middle to replace Azeez Al-Shaair. And Isaac, a bigger but still explosive pass rusher at 6-foot-4 and 247 pounds, will get the chance to learn behind Harold Landry III and Arden Key in the Titans' outside linebacker rotation.
What ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., Field Yates said about Tennessee Titans NFL draft picks
Kiper on Joe Alt: "Sure, an offensive lineman in back-to-back drafts might be boring for Titans fans, but did you watch Tennessee's line last season? Alt is my top-ranked tackle, and he could step in on the left side on Day 1."
Kiper on Adisa Isaac: "Isaac's production (7.5 sacks last season) and tape are comparable to that of former teammate Chop Robinson. Isaac is a really good player. Tennessee ranked 31st in the league in sacks per dropback last season at 11.1%."
Yates on Junior Colson: "How about Colson's fit with Tennessee? He would add immediate toughness to a Titans defense that lost Azeez Al-Shaair in free agency to Houston."
