Dennis Allen says he believes Justin Simmons' visit went well
It's easy to feel disappointed about Justin Simmons leaving his visit with the New Orleans Saints without a contract -- anything less than Simmons meeting with thee team on Wednesday, signing a contract on Thursday, and participating in their training camp practice that afternoon can feel like a letdown.
But they aren't out of the woods yet. Head coach Dennis Allen said he felt that Simmons' visit went well.
"Yeah, look, I thought it was a good visit," Allen told reporters on Thursday. "And so I can't really tell you exactly where that stands right now. I think this is one of those deals where we had a chance to sit down and visit with him on a number of different fronts. Myself, Mickey (Loomis), coaching staff, even some of the players got to sit down with him. Him get a feel for us, us get a feel for him. And then we evaluate how that went. We evaluate it from our standpoint, I think he's going through an evaluation process from his standpoint. I'm sure there'll be some communication from our people to his people, and we'll see."
That's easy to understand. Simmons targeted the Saints because of all the familiar faces. Two of his former Denver Broncos position coaches, Joe Woods and Marcus Robertson, are on staff in New Orleans. His college teammate and golfing buddy Will Harris is competing for a roster spot at training camp. It's a comfortable situation to step into without even discussing the money and starting opportunity.
