Columbus Crew score 2 in stoppage time, defeat New York City FC 4-2: Replay

For the second time, the Crew's DeJuan Jones helped wreck New York City's night. Jones entered the match as a substitution in the 90th minute and, with the score tied 2-2, connected on a goal to give Columbus the lead in the third minute of stoppage time.

The Crew finished Saturday with a 4-2 victory as Jacen Russell-Rowe gave Columbus an insurance goal seven minutes later.

New York City scored first with a first-half goal from Alonso Martinez. Diego Rossi countered for Columbus with his tenth goal of the season, sending the match to halftime tied 1-1. The tally also made Rossi the fifth Crew player in history to record 10 goals and 10 assists in one regular season.

Columbus took a 2-1 lead off a goal from Max Arfsten, but New York City snapped the lead in the 86th minute when Monsef Bakrar scored.

Looking like the game would end with a draw, Jones and Russell-Rowe swung the game back in Columbus' favor. This happened two weeks to the day that Jones scored the winning penalty kick against NYCFC in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals to advance the Crew in the tournament.

Following a save from NYCFC goalkeeper Luis Barraza off a Diego Rossi shot attempt, forward Jacen Russell-Rowe was able to find the ball that hit off Barraza's hands and score the fourth goal of the match for Columbus. The Crew lead 4-2.

(90+3') DeJuan Jones breaks tie for Columbus, Crew take 3-2 lead vs NYCFC

Three minutes after entering the match as a substitution, DeJuan Jones scores for the Crew near the New York City goal line, giving Columbus the late-game 3-2 lead.

Jones' goal was assisted by midfielder Alex Matan, who sent a header pass into the goalkeeper box. After a bounce, Jones gave a light-touch to the ball to score.

The Crew announced that 20,618 were in attendance at Lower.com Field for Columbus against New York City on Saturday. This is Columbus' 12th announced sellout for an MLS regular-season game this year.

Foward Diego Rossi had the ball near the top of the box, when he sent a pass into Arfsten on the run. Arfsten took just one touch to take a shot, which would clear past goalkeeper Luis Barraza.

After around a minute of reviewing the play, official Ted Unkel announced to those in attendance at Lower.com Field that there was no handball penalty against NYCFC. The Crew were awarded a corner kick.

The officials signaled for a VAR review of a possible handball inside NYCFC's box following a Diego Rossi shot attempt that hit off New York City defender Brik Risa.

In the 57th minute of play, the officials signaled for the end of the first half with the score tied 1-1. The Crew took 5 shots, 1 on goal while New York City FC took 8 shots, 3 on goal. It was New York City who controlled the possession in the first half with a 55.7% possession rate.

Crew forward Chrisitan Ramirez got the ball off an up-field pass from midfielder Mo Farsi on the right side of NYCFC's box. With only goalkeeper Luis Barraza in between Ramirez and the goal, Ramirez took a shot attempt that went too far left and out of bounce.

After a foul against forward Christan Ramirez, the Crew were awarded a free kick several feet outside New York City's box. Forward Diego Rossi executed the free kick attempt, and used it as shot opportunity. Getting the ball over the NYCFC line of defense, goalkeeper Luis Barraza was able to snatch up the unsuccessful shot attempt.

Midfielder James Sands went down with an apparent head injury and was evaluated for over several minutes by NYCFC medical staff on the field. After he was helped off the field, and spent two-minutes on the sidelines, Sands was able to re-enter the match,

From the top, left side of New York City's box, Crew striker Cucho Hernandez took a shot attempt, despite being contested by a NYCFC defender. Hernandez's shot attempt would go too far right, past the goal and out of bounds.

Crew defender Malte Amundsen was given the first yellow card of the match with a foul against New York City forward Hannes Wolf. NYCFC was unable to make anything from the free kick opportunity.

With goalkeeper Luis Barraza out of goal to contest forward Christian Ramirez's shot on the right side of the field, forward Diego Rossi made a run down the middle of the box and was able to finish the play with a shot just inches from the goal line, tying the score 1-1.

Following a high kick attempt in an effort to stop Crew forward Christian Ramirez receiving the ball on a run, NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese went down with an apparent lower body injury. Freese immediately waived from medical attention and after being evaluated for several minutes, was taken out of the match.

(4') Alonso Martinez scores early goal for New York City FC, Columbus Crew go down 1-0

NYCFC forward Alonso Martinez received a pass at the top of the Crew's box from Tayvon Gray and was quickly able to turn the pass into a scoring opportunity after two touches.

Martinez took a shot from the middle of the box, which went by goalkeeper Patrick Schulte and to the bottom-left corner of the goal. Columbus falls behind 1-0.

Columbus Crew observe moment of silence for Johnny Gaudreau before match

Before the national anthem, the Crew had a moment of silence to honor Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, who were killed after being struck by a suspected drunk driver on Thursday evening.

The Crew supporter section, the Nordecke, has also organized a moment of silence at the 13th minute of the match for Gaudreau and his brother. Gaudreau's jersey number was 13.
