Who is Colts safety Nick Cross?
Cross, who attended Maryland, was drafted by the Colts in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Colts traded up with Denver for Cross giving up a fifth-round pick in 2022 (Kingsley Enagbare, 11 starts at linebacker in two seasons with Green Bay) and a 2023 third-rounder (Drew Sanders, 4 starts at linebacker for Denver last season).
During his time in the league, Cross has registered 56 total tackles, one fumble recovery, two pass deflections and one interception in 33 games played. He has started four games.
Cross is in a competition to try and be the starting free safety for the Colts in 2024.

No. 1 wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. can make plays in the slot. That would allow Pittman to play alongside Alec Pierce and Adonai Mitchell, two young receivers competing for playing time at the other outside receiver spot.
Colts' have five tight ends on the roster who could also help fill the role Downs would have played.
