Cleveland Guardians vs. Texas Rangers recap; Guards' skid continues

CLEVELAND — The Guardians are coming off a rough road trip on which they went 1-5. They now return home looking to rebound in the friendly confines of Progressive Field.

The Guardians open this homestand with a three-game series against the Texas Rangers before the Kansas City Royals come to Cleveland for a four-game set, including a doubleheader Monday. The extended homestand will then conclude with a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Tanner Bibee takes the mound opposite Nathan Eovaldi Friday night as the Guardians look to get back on track with the divisional race heating up.

Guardians-Rangers final score; Texas beats Cleveland

The Guardians lost 5-3 to the Rangers Friday night. They've now lost five of their last six games.

Lane Thomas strikes out to end inning

With two on and two out in the eighth, Lane Thomas — representing the potential go-ahead run — struck out against David Robertson to end the inning with the Rangers still leading 5-3. Thomas exchanged some words with the home plate umpire before manager Stephen Vogt pulled him away to avoid being ejected.

Adolis Garcia hits RBI double

Adolis Garcia doubled in a run off Cade Smith to give the Rangers a 5-3 lead and some breathing room.

Nathan Eovaldi's day is done as well entering the seventh inning.

Tanner Bibee taken out in sixth inning; Guardians-Rangers score update

Tanner Bibee recovered nicely after his four-run second inning to pitch into the sixth inning, tossing 5⅔ innings. It easily could have been a much longer night for the Guardians bullpen. Over the course of a season, that kind of recovery to at least offer the bullpen some length can have some hidden benefits, especially for the Guardians, who have been adamant about not overworking their league-best bullpen.

Entering the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers lead the Guardians 4-3.

Bo Naylor, Guardians coming back against Nathan Eovaldi

The Guardians are chipping away.

With a runner in scoring position, Bo Naylor lined a single to right field to slice the Rangers' lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning.

Daniel Schneemann RBI single cuts into Rangers lead; Guardians score

With Brayan Rocchio already on base, Daniel Schneemann scored him with a single that has the Guardians trailing the Rangers 4-2 in the third inning.

Schneemann is in the No. 2 spot in the lineup tonight.

Against Nathan Eovaldi, Lane Thomas comes through for Guardians

Lane Thomas, statistically, has had a pretty brutal introduction with the Guardians, but he came through in the third inning with a sacrifice fly that has cut the Rangers' lead to 4-1.

Corey Seager two-run double extends Rangers lead over Guardians

The Guardians' fortunes from the road seemed to have followed them home.

Still with two outs, Tanner Bibee couldn't get out of the inning. Corey Seager drilled a double off the wall that got past Brennan on the rebound, and the Rangers extended their lead to 4-0.

Guardians, Rangers score: Leody Taveras gives Texas the lead

Sometimes, a little luck goes a long way in baseball.

With two on and two out in the second inning, Leody Taveras came through with a broken-bat single that fell just in front of Will Brennan in right field, scoring two and giving the Rangers an early 2-0 lead against Tanner Bibee and the Guardians.

And after a walk, Bibee will have thrown at least 40 pitches before the second inning is done.
